Children's Health
Gentle, family-centred care
From those first precious months to the teenage years, we offer gentle assessments tailored to each stage of your child's development.
Caring for Your Baby
The first year of life is a remarkable period of growth and development. During this time, your baby's nervous system is rapidly maturing, helping to coordinate movement, feeding, sleep, digestion, and their ability to interact with the world around them.
Every smile, stretch, feed, cuddle, and milestone reflects the incredible connection between the brain, nervous system, and body.
Birth is a big transition
Whether your baby is born vaginally or by caesarean section, birth is a significant physical event. As babies make the transition from the womb into the outside world, their bodies are exposed to new forces and experiences.
At The Healing Nest, we offer gentle assessments for newborns and infants to evaluate movement, posture, and overall musculoskeletal function. Our goal is to identify areas of tension or restricted movement that may be influencing your baby's comfort or development.
Some families choose to have their baby assessed if they notice:
- A preference for looking or turning to one side
- A developing flat spot on the head (plagiocephaly or brachycephaly)
- Difficulty becoming comfortable in certain positions
- Challenges with tummy time
- Head or body asymmetry, such as a head tilt or curved body posture
- Difficulty settling or appearing unsettled during certain movements or positions
- A preference for using one side of the body more than the other
Some parents also seek an assessment if their baby is experiencing challenges with feeding or if they have concerns about their baby's movement patterns. During your consultation, Dr Carina will take the time to understand your concerns and, where appropriate, work alongside your baby's broader healthcare team.
Gentle, individualised care
Dr Carina has undertaken additional training in paediatric chiropractic care and uses gentle, age-appropriate techniques tailored specifically for infants. Every assessment and care plan is individualised, with your baby's comfort and wellbeing at the centre of every visit.
Whether you're seeking reassurance, have concerns about your baby's development, or simply want to give your little one the best start possible, we're here to support you through those precious early months.
Caring for Your Toddler
The toddler years are full of curiosity, adventure, and rapid development. From first steps and climbing to running, jumping, and exploring the world around them, your child's body is constantly learning new movement skills.
Every child develops at their own pace, but these early years are an important time for building strength, coordination, balance, and confidence. As movement skills develop, children also continue to refine the connection between their brain and body through everyday play and exploration.
Supporting growing bodies
As toddlers become more active, they also experience plenty of bumps, tumbles, and new physical challenges. These everyday adventures place increasing demands on their growing muscles, joints, and developing movement patterns.
At The Healing Nest, we take a whole-child approach to care. Our assessments consider how your child moves, their posture, symmetry, coordination, and overall musculoskeletal function, while also taking the time to understand their developmental history and your family's concerns.
Parents may choose to have their toddler assessed if they notice:
- Frequent trips, falls, or clumsiness
- Ear infections or falling ill often
- A preference for one side of the body
- Changes in posture or walking patterns
- Stiffness or reduced movement
- Delays or concerns with gross motor skills
- General musculoskeletal discomfort
- They simply want reassurance that their child is moving well as they grow
Encouraging healthy development
Movement is one of the primary ways toddlers learn about the world. Through crawling, climbing, balancing, running, and playing, children continue to develop coordination, body awareness, and confidence.
Dr Carina provides gentle, age-appropriate chiropractic care tailored to each child's individual needs. Every assessment is personalised, with care focused on supporting comfortable movement, healthy musculoskeletal function, and your child's ability to participate in everyday activities.
Caring for Your School-Aged Child
The primary school years are an exciting time of growth, learning, and independence. Between the ages of 5 and 12, children continue to develop physically, emotionally, and socially as they build the skills needed for everyday life.
During these years, children's bodies are constantly changing. Bones grow rapidly, muscles become stronger, coordination becomes more refined, and movement skills continue to develop through play, sport, and everyday activities. At the same time, the demands of school increase, with longer periods of sitting, carrying heavy backpacks, increased screen time, and participation in extracurricular activities.
Supporting growing bodies
As children become more active and independent, their bodies are exposed to new physical demands. Sport, dance, gymnastics, playground adventures, and even growth spurts can all contribute to changes in posture, movement, and musculoskeletal comfort.
At The Healing Nest, we assess how your child moves, their posture, balance, coordination, and overall musculoskeletal function. We take the time to understand your child's lifestyle, activity levels, and any concerns you may have to ensure our care is tailored to their individual needs.
Parents may choose to have their school-aged child assessed for concerns such as:
- Neck or back pain
- Sports-related aches and injuries
- Falling sick often
- Poor posture
- Headaches
- Bedwetting (alongside medical assessment)
- Muscle tightness or joint stiffness
- Growing pains
- Movement or coordination concerns
- General musculoskeletal discomfort
Childhood should be filled with confidence, movement, and fun. Whether your child loves sport, dance, climbing trees, or simply playing with friends, comfortable movement plays an important role in helping them participate in the activities they enjoy.
Caring for Teenagers
The teenage years are a time of incredible growth and change. As adolescents move through puberty, their bodies experience rapid growth spurts, hormonal changes, and increasing physical demands. At the same time, they are balancing school, sport, part-time work, friendships, and the pressures of everyday life.
These years place new demands on the body. Long hours sitting in the classroom, increased screen time, carrying heavy school bags, competitive sport, and growth-related changes can all influence posture, movement, and musculoskeletal comfort.
Teenagers may choose to see a chiropractor for concerns such as:
- Neck and back pain
- Sports-related injuries
- Muscle tension
- Headaches
- Poor posture
- Growth-related aches and pains
- Reduced mobility or stiffness
- General musculoskeletal discomfort
Scoliosis assessments
Adolescence is the most common time for scoliosis to develop or progress, particularly during periods of rapid growth. Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine that can vary in severity and often develops without pain or obvious symptoms.
Parents may notice uneven shoulders, a prominent shoulder blade, an uneven waistline, or one hip sitting higher than the other. Early assessment is important, as monitoring during growth can help determine whether further investigation or referral is appropriate.
Dr Carina performs scoliosis screening, including X-ray if necessary, as part of a comprehensive spinal assessment. If scoliosis is suspected, she will discuss appropriate next steps. Chiropractic care may also play a role in supporting spinal mobility, posture, and managing any associated musculoskeletal discomfort where appropriate.
The teenage years lay the foundation for lifelong health. Our goal is to help teenagers move well, feel confident in their bodies, and continue doing the activities they love throughout these important years of growth and development.
We love partnering with families as children grow
Our goal is to provide a welcoming environment where children feel safe, parents feel heard, and every family is supported on their health journey.
